Fougères: a town with a rich heritage
The town of Fougères offers visitors a vast panorama of 1,000 years of history.
Labelled “Ville d’Art et d’Histoire” (City of Art and History) in 1985, the town can be explored in a variety of ways, from strolling along its medieval streets dominated by the monumental silhouette of its fortified castle, to climbing the paths of the public gardens to admire the elegant facades of the 18th-century townhouses in the upper town.
The town’s industrial past, marked by the production of shoes, can still be seen through the old factories whose facades are magnified by the mosaics of the famous Rennes firm Odorico.
With a vast program of activities and events scheduled each season in the cultural calendar, Fougères has not yet finished surpising and charming you.
