The first town to be labelled the « Ville d’Art et d’Histoire » label

Fougères was labelled the Ville d’Art et d’Histoire (Town of Art and History) label in 1985, in recognition of the preservation and enhancement of its architectural, cultural and natural heritage. This certification, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture, provides visitors with quality reception and guided tours led by a professional team.

City Hall

Located on Porte Saint-Léonard street, this 15th-century building has been listed as a historic monument since 1926.

A convent that successively became a military hospital, then a barracks and finally a social housing, its architecture and stained glass windows make it a major heritage site in Fougères.


Victor Hugo Theatre

Saint-Léonard church
